Q&A with Celeste Quesada
Who are your favorite designers?
My favorite designers are Zero + Maria Cornejo, Ulla Johnson, Isabel Marant, Sea and Xirena. Just about every time my fingers start flirting with a sleeve or hem of a skirt ~ it's usually made by one of those designers.
What do you enjoy most about shopping at MOSS?
I come from a long line of very prestigious garage sale pickers and estate sale early birds. Hand-me-downs a.k.a recycled clothing was a way of life when I was young. They were always given with love and a certain magic story. To this day, I remain a self-proclaimed treasure hunter and I absolutely love the thrill of the hunt. And when I step through the doors of Moss, I always embark on an adventure, weaving through a thoughtfully curated collection of incredible clothing. Like an enchanted forest of fashion ever-changing with the seasons, Moss is never the same twice.
But most importantly, I find it crucial to do my small part to reduce waste, recycle and keep clothing out of landfills. I believe in supporting businesses that have this like-minded philosophy, such as Moss. ...And if I have to buy a pair of gently used Jimmy Choo shoes to help sustain Planet Earth, I am here to help.
What inspires you most about fashion?
A fabulous wardrobe is not only beautiful but a powerful tool for self-expression, activism and cultural change. Throughout history, social movements have been identified by style or fashion. I think what inspires me the most about fashion is I can feel like I’m making a political statement about being eco-friendly and honoring the planet’s resources. I absolutely love walking into a gala or down an award show red carpet knowing that I’m wearing a vintage or recycled outfit while supporting a local business, like Moss.
How often do you clean out your closet?
The first step is to admit you have a problem. When my closet doors aren’t able to shut, it’s usually a good time to address the issue at hand. However, there’s a delicate balance to being a clothing collector or a plain ole hoarder. …Sometimes that line can be very blurred.
What items, designers or trends are you currently loving?
For many years, I was an all black kind of gal with a splash of grey. But the older I’ve gotten, I realized my classic all-black look was looking a little too “City Witch with a splash of Druid”. I had gone too far into the dark side.
These days, I want more light and joy in my life. I am gravitating to color, patterns and bold design choices. I am also a textile enthusiast and own a large collection of textiles and vintage fabrics. I’m inspired by modern fashion designers that pay homage to the extraordinary design of diverse regions and indigenous cultures.
